We meet Nellie on one of or the worst days of her life. After finding out her finance is a cheating louse, she loses her job as well. But then she receives a mysterious letter from a solicitor about an inheritance from her estrange aunt Lily, and we’re whisked away to a lovely seaside town where love, new friendships, and a more purposeful life awaits.
Nash’s characters are well thought out and each of them grow as the story develops. I appreciated the backstory about the loving relationship between Nellie and her aunt, even though Nellie feels so much angst over not staying in touch as she matured and began her own life, not knowing why her mom and aunt had parted ways. Nellie’s best friend, her aunt’s beloved dog, Norm, and the new friends she meets in Muddleford are all blessings in disguise.
Jack, Nellie’s high-school crush is a dream come true. And then there’s Natalia, one of those characters you would love to slap. But in the end, she evolves into a warm and caring human being.
I adored the setting from the charming town and the quaint beach houses to the colorful stones with uplifting notes written on them.
Moonlight Over Muddleford Cove is an inspiring beach read, though the conflict is repeated many times simply wasting words on the pages. With that said, I do recommend reading this book to escape into a world of sunshine and second chances.
